Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She served on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at for the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
